Not a law firm
GuidedCase is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. We are an online document preparation service. Use of this site does not create an attorney-client relationship, and communications with us are not protected by attorney-client privilege. If you need legal advice, please consult a licensed attorney in your state.
No legal advice
Everything on this site is general information about the divorce process. It is not advice about your situation, and it should not be relied on as a substitute for speaking with an attorney.
We cannot tell you what your legal rights are, recommend how to divide property or arrange custody, advise on whether a settlement is fair, or predict what a court will decide. Our role is to complete court forms accurately from the answers you give us.
No attorney-client relationship
Nothing about using this site, buying our service, or corresponding with us creates an attorney-client relationship.
Because we are not your attorneys, what you tell us is not privileged. It is treated confidentially under our Privacy Policy, but it does not carry the legal protection that communications with an attorney would.
You are responsible for your case
You are filing your own divorce. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you give us, for reviewing your documents before you sign them, for filing them with your court, and for meeting your court’s requirements and deadlines.
Information about state law
Residency rules, waiting periods, court fees, and required forms differ by state and by county, and they change. We work to keep this information current, but we cannot guarantee that every detail is accurate or up to date at the moment you read it.
Your court is the authority on what it requires.
When you should speak to an attorney
An uncontested online divorce is not right for every situation. Please consider talking to an attorney if:
- You and your spouse do not agree about the divorce or its terms
- You cannot locate your spouse
- There is a history of abuse, or a protective order is in place
- There are substantial or complex assets, a business, or a pension to divide
- Either spouse is an active-duty service member
- You are unsure whether an agreement you have been asked to sign is fair to you
Our qualification questions are designed to identify most of these, and we will say so and offer an introduction to an attorney rather than sell you something that will not help.
